Denise Froehlich

Denise Froehlich is a photographer based in Portland and Kennebunkport, Maine who received her masters degree from Vermont College. She teaches photography part-time at Bates College, is an independent designer and curator, and the director of the Maine Museum of Photographic Arts.

"The work you see comes from an on-going series, The Pathos of Eros, was inspired by Lucien Freud's work, and leaves an impression of the male body that reflects my thoughts on virility, ageing, and beauty. These images were made in 2014 and they are film based ink jet prints. They are taken with a plastic camera, 3200 speed film and printed on archival drawing paper. The thick paper is a cream color and because of the grain from the high speed film, the images look like pointillist figurative drawings."
