Ben Potter

Ben Potter is an artist based in Belfast, a small mid-coast town in Maine. His work takes nature as its subject, however, he looks at it in a different way, subverting it to his own point of view. He takes everyday themes and looks for the abstract patterns found in them. His drawings are made with milk which he uses like ink with a pen that he dips into the milk as if in an inkwell. He then burns the milk with a lamp which creates a smoky outline. He uses gouache paint to add colour and texture to his drawings.

Ben also does large-scale wooden cut outs with subjects such as swirling water or the stubble left in fields after a crop has been harvested. He has shown work in solo shows in Portland Maine and in group shows throughout the Northeast of the U.S.
